Which Wig Attachment Method is Better: Clips or Adhesive?

Many newcomers to wigs often ask the following questions:

How do you wear a wig? Do you need to shave your head? Is it secure? Will it be blown away by the wind?

...

In fact, there are mainly two ways to attach wigs: clips and adhesive. Adhesive can be further divided into tapes and glues. These methods can be combined at will, making it very convenient. But how to choose the most suitable attachment method?

The ranking of the three methods from different angles is as follows:

Firmness: Glue > Tape > Clips

Comfort: Clips > Tape > Glue

Realism: Glue > Tape > Clips

For glues and tapes, it is necessary to shave the hair in the area where the wig will be attached to make it more secure and comfortable. On the other hand, clips do not require shaving, but the surrounding hair needs to be at least 1 centimeter long to be clipped securely.

From the perspective of advantages and disadvantages:

Glue:

The advantage of glue is its strong adhesion, which can securely fix the wig to the scalp, making it suitable for long-term wear, such as for performances or daily life. However, the drawback is that it requires shaving the hair in the area of wig attachment. It also takes a considerable amount of time to apply the glue, and it needs to semi-solidify before wearing. Cleaning the glue is also troublesome. There are various types of wig adhesives, including water-based, organic solvent-based, adhesive-based, acrylic resin-based, epoxy resin-based, etc. Each type has different attributes such as curing speed, viscosity, water resistance, and durability.

Tape:

Tape shares similar advantages with glue in securely attaching the wig to the scalp, but it is generally applied only on the edges and middle of the wig piece, allowing for daily removal and better breathability compared to glue. Cleaning is also less hassle; you can simply peel it off and clean the wig piece. However, like glue, it also requires the removal of hair in the attachment area. Also, wigs have curvature, and everyone's curvature is different, so it requires better connection between the tape and the wig piece during trimming. Leaving excess tape may expose it and stick to the hair, while a large gap with the edge may cause the wig not to fit snugly on the scalp, leading to the edges lifting.

Clips:

The advantage of clips is that they are easy to wear, without the need to shave the head. As long as there is hair on the head that can be clipped, they can be used in various situations, allowing for easy changes without affecting one's appearance. There is no need to remove any adhesive, and they are suitable for various occasions. However, the drawback is that when not operated properly, clips may pull on the hair and may compress the scalp. They are also prone to falling off and may expose the wig cap.

Of course, besides these three methods, you can mix and match as desired. For example, you can use adhesive at the hairline for realism while using clips at the back for comfort. This way, you can achieve both realism and comfort.

Now that you have a clear understanding of the wig attachment methods, have you decided which one suits you best?
